Here is a list of the Top-10 securities scams according to the Illinois Secretary of State. Obviously, not all the following are fraudulent all the time. Nonetheless, the Illinois Secretary of State deemed these items important enough to mention:

1 Ponzi Schemes
2 Investment Fraud on Seniors
3 Promissory Notes
4 Unscrupulous Brokers
5 Affinity Fraud
6 Unlicensed Securities peddlers (including Insurance Agents)
7 Prime Bank Schemes
8 Internet Fraud
9 Mutual Funds
10 Variable Annuities

If you have been exposed to any of the above or have questions about a suspicious situation, feel free to contact M. Hedayat & Associates, P.C. with any questions or follow up.

Smart. Smarter. Smartest cell-phones.
Has anyone read this? Any feed-back?
I've said it before and I'll say it again: California Uber Alles. Go Governator Shwartzenegger.
A little humor in troubles "Times." You'll get the joke when you see the site. Jason Blaire -- where are you when we need you?

Feeling a bit eclectic tonight. These posts should be worth reading from a general interest standpoint and offer a few useful tools as well:

We start with the E-Government Act. You didn't know about the E-Government Act, you say? Neither did I, but apparently it's working. Hmm.

Is there a way to actually find information on a goverment website? If searching just one isn't enough sport for you, try searching multiple agency sites at once. It's called "Inter-Agency Searching" and its a rollicking good time.

And finally, comparison shopping on the Web -- the good, the bad and the uselefull

Illinois corporation holds 2 Great Clips franchise stores: brand new, with excellent locations. Stores essentially operate themselves: all of the employees are in place including a full-time manager at each location. One of the two stores was recently in the top rankings of area franchise units. Demographics are strong, with both operations in growing areas. Owner just needs short-term financing to get over personal cash-flow issues unrelated to the stores.

This is an opportunity to trade on strong potential for growth in a proven business model.

Owner is looking for liquidity and can offer a short, intermediate or longer-term horizon for return on investment.

Search engine wars continue as Ask Jeeves buys Interactive Holdings. Personally, I just use Google. Enough said.
Good morning everybody and welcome to a beautiful Monday morning. Let's start the week off by talking about everyone's favorite topic, outsourcing. You know, the practice of finding overseas workers to do the jobs that Americans have priced themselves out of in the name of preserving their life-style. You've heard about it on the news, online and at the water-cooler: now, from the people who brought you the Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act comes the Defending American Jobs Act of 2004. Apparently Howard Dean's beloved State of Vermont is leading the way into still further U.S. isolationism. Way to lead, Vermont!

If anyone is invested in or through Edward Jones, you may want to take a look at this article. Whoopsi-daisy!
Well you see, there are lawyers who live to work and others who work to live. So for those who just can't get enough lawyering in their spare time, check out the personal papers of Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun, now available courtesy of the Library of Congress. You can also find the Thomas legislative information database there as well as other bonuses for those who just aren't satisfied with 24 hour CSPAN coverage of Congress.

Okay, who am I kidding? I love gizmos, gadgets and all things technological. So what if I just bought a PDA? I need a new one! And with a look at upcoming techno-gewgaws like these, it's no wonder. Break out the cash, and bring home the hand-held joy.
Remember the "New Economy?" No, no, not the current New Economy, the one that nobody likes, but rather the old New Economy from the 1990's. Well, apparently some people haven't gotten over the shock of losing their Internet billions and Bill Clinton in the same 4 year period. For proof positive, see what the writers at Fast Company have observed about how we can learn a few lessons to put to work in the current economy. This is actually a very good article. As one who lived the dream from 1998-2000 and jumped into the New Economy with both feet, I feel your pain. Well, we'll always have eLawCentral. And Paris. We'll always have Paris.
Apparently Yahoo has introduced a more robust, turbo-charged search engine called, creatively, "Yahoo Search Technology" (the Yahoo boys get an "A" for effort on that name). But will it be able to keep up with Google? And when will the founders of Google officially become Billionaires? Or has that already happened? And they look like they're about 23, too. Wow.
Hey, Illinois ... get with the times! While our beloved Secretary of State bestows interminable telephone hold time on us and makes us get in line to fill out forms that allow us to get into an even bigger line, the State of Arizona has introduced online filing of Corporate Annual Reports. Way to go Arizona. Let's see how long it takes for the Midwest to catch up (as usual).

For those interested, the Bankruptcy Subcommittee of the DuPage County Bar Association now has its own unofficial Weblog at http://dcbabk.blogspot.com/. We hope to generate some good momentum and valuable discussions among Bankruptcy practitioners, interested non-Bankruptcy practitioners, the public and the curious. And as always the DCBA Bankruptcy Subcommittee will be open to your suggestions and opinions, so bring those with you. We hope to see you there.
The Passion?! Well, of another sort perhaps... I spent Saturday night with a Peruvian attorney who is working on her LLM (immigration law) and studying for the CA Bar. I found her to be as impressive with her background and knowledge of law as she is beautiful. We went to Zarzuela's for Tapas in Russian Hill (2000 Hyde St, San Francisco, CA) and had an excellent meal. Highly recommend it!
This was quite the weekend. The "Passion" opened and I saw it on Saturday. It was a tour de force. And the authenticity was beyond impressive: "Gladiator" meets the Gospel of St. Peter. I recommend the experience -- although not for the feint of heart.
